| Wrapping up a
great semester |
Thanks for
your hard work on our students’ behalf this semester! As you prepare
for finals and a well-deserved holiday, please do the following to
wrap up your WebCT class(es):
- Check to be sure that your Nexus (RaiderNet) and your WebCT
class roll sheets match. Students NOT in the Nexus/RaiderNet roll
are NOT officially enrolled in the WebCT class and should not be
assigned a grade. Students not in the WebCT roll have never logged
on to your WebCT classroom.
- Make a backup of each class when finals are over and save this
backup to your hard drive, jump drive, or other storage media. See
http://ltech.nwfstatecollege.edu/tutorials-faculty/WebCT-backup/tutorial.html
for a tutorial.
- Go into each WebCT classroom and deny students access and make
them inactive. See http://ltech.nwfstatecollege.edu/tutorials-faculty/make-students-inactive/screencaps.html
for a tutorial.
Your Spring 2007 WebCT shells will be
available to you on Dec. 1, well before the Christmas holidays. When
you begin work in them, we suggest strongly that you deny students
access until orientations or until you have finished creating them.
To upload content from a previous semester into the new, empty
shell, see http://ltech.nwfstatecollege.edu/tutorials-faculty/populate_course_shell/tutorial.html(HTML
format) or http://ltech.nwfstatecollege.edu/tutorials-faculty/populate-w-prev-term/populate-w-prev-term.html
(video format) for a tutorial.
Please alert students next
semester that if they earn an incomplete in Spring 2007, they may
have to complete that coursework in a different course management
system; we anticipate changing from WebCT 4.1 to another application
on July 1, 2007.
Here are important dates for next semester:
- Orientations: January 5 and 6, 2007
- Midterm exams: February 23 and 24, 2007
- Final exams: April 27 and 28, 2007

| Quick Tech Tip:
Zip! |
Have you
ever tried to email a whole folder full of files to someone, only to
realize that you can't attach a whole folder? That's because the
files need to be contained in a special type of folder - a
compressed (zipped) folder. Here's how it's done:
Ctrl-click
each file and/or folder that you want to include in the zipped
folder. Once you've selected all of them, right-click any one of
them and choose Send To> Compressed (zipped) Folder. The zipped
folder will take the name of whichever file you right-click, and it
will appear in the same folder in which it was created.
Now
all you have to do is attach it to your email message the same as
you would do with any other file. The recipient will be able to
extract the files on his or her machine with XP's built-in zip
extractor, or any other zip program they may have installed. It's
that easy!
