Computer Requirements for D2L

Hardware, Software, and Computer Skills

To participate in a web-based course you must own or have daily access to a computer. You must also have an Internet connection. You are responsible for setting up an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP). If you are not using your own equipment, be sure that you have the rights to use the computer for course work and that you have the right to download (save to the local disk drive) and/or print information. The computers and software you use for this course should meet or exceed the following specifications:

PC-Based - Recommended Minimum Standards

Pentium II 233 MHz or Celeron 300 MHz w/128K cache
32MB RAM
100MB free space on the hard drive
CD-ROM
Accelerated video card W/2MB RAM
100% Sound Blaster compatible sound card w/ speakers
56 Kbps modem
Windows 95 or higher

Web Browser Specifications

Mac-Based - Recommended Minimum Standards
(the iMac fits this description)

PowerPC G3 266MHz
32MB RAM
100MB free space on the hard drive
CD-ROM
Accelerated video card w/2MB RAM
56 Kbps modem
MacOs 7.6.1
Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher

Computer Skills Requirement

You must also be familiar with the basic operation of your computer, your computer's operating system (i.e. Microsoft Windows, MacOS), word processing, use of the mouse, e-mail, file management, the installation of software, and sending/attaching and opening attached files.

If you can answer yes to the following questions, web-based instruction may be right for you.

  1. Do I own and/or have daily access to a computer?
  2. Can I download files to the local hard drive?
  3. Do I have a reliable ISP?
  4. Does my computer hardware match or exceed the listed minimums?
  5. Can I navigate the Internet (understand the function of back, refresh)?
  6. Can I save a document in Word even if I am using a different word processor?
  7. Do I know how to send and/or receive files?
  8. Can I send a Word attachment via email?
  9. Do I know how to use email in accordance w/ Netiquette?
  10. Do I have basic computer literacy skills?
