Distance Learning Options
Text-Based
After registering for a distance learning course, the student must read his receipt to find out when and what room number his orientation will be held on the Niceville Campus. This is the start (Kick-Off) of the course. The orientation date/time/room schedule will also be posted on the About Orientations page of our website at least a week before the day of orientation. The orientation schedule will also be posted on the doors of most of the buildings on the Niceville campus the day of orientation.
A text-based distance learning course operates in this fashion:
- The student must appear for orientation in order to receive instructions and course-related materials (student study guide) from the instructor. If the student cannot appear at the scheduled day and time, he or she must contact the instructor to make other arrangements.
- Most courses will require one or more textbooks.
- Some instructors will give the student assignments that must be remitted to the instructor periodically, while some instructors will allow the student to work at his or her own pace with the deadline of midterm and final dates without requiring interaction or the handing in of assignments.
- Some text-based courses may have a web supplemental component, but students are not required to have a computer and internet access in order to complete the course. The web supplemental component is simply offered to enhance the provided course materials.
- The student must appear on campus for the scheduled midterm exam. Some instructors may require coursework to be turned in at this time. If the student cannot appear at the scheduled day and time, he or she must contact the instructor to make other arrangements.
- The student must appear on campus for the scheduled final exam. Some instructors may require coursework to be turned in at this time. If the student cannot appear at the scheduled day and time, he or she must contact the instructor to make other arrangements.
- Some instructors require students to come to campus for more exams beyond the midterm and final exams. Several instructors have 4 – 6 exams scheduled during the course of the semester.
